Common Questions
  • Create a Business Manager

Business Manager is a free Facebook tool to organize and manage your business. You must have a personal Facebook username and password to sign into Business Manager. Business Manager accounts are created with your personal Facebook profile to verify your identity. This is similar to logging in with Facebook to access other apps or services. It’s more secure than using just an email address and password to log in.

    1. Go to the Business Manager Overview page and click Create Account.
    2. Enter your business name.
    3. Enter your business email. Do not enter your personal email account, as you want to keep your private and professional accounts separate.
    4. You'll be redirected to your newly created Business Manager. Now you'll need to add your assets, like Pages, ad accounts, and people.

    Set Up

    1. Under the Set Up Your Business Manager section, click Add Page to add your Facebook business page, request access to work on someone else's page, or create a new Page entirely. People who had access to your Page before you transferred it to Business Manager will still have access to it. Complete the flow and click Save.
    2. Once you're finished adding Pages to your Business Manager, you're going to complete the same process for ad accounts and people.
    3. Click Add Ad Accounts to add one of your ad accounts, request access to work on someone else's ad account, or create a new one. Keep in mind that you can have a max of 5 ad accounts and they can't be deleted.
    4. Adding an ad account or Page into Business Manager moves it from the Facebook account it was associated with into Business Manager. Requesting Access to an ad account or Page means that the original owner of the item keeps full admin control but gives someone access to help manage it as either a Business Admin (complete access) or Business Employee (limited access). If you are granted access to an asset by another business, they may remove your access at any time.
    5. Click Add People to add people to your business as an Admin or Employee using their email address. The people you added will receive an email that tells them you’ve invited them to join your company's business on Facebook that they'll need to accept.
    6. It's important that you assign one other person to your business as an Admin in the case you get locked out of your business, leave your business, or need help managing assets. It's a good idea to add most people to your business as an employee, ensuring they only have the level of access they need to complete their work.
    7. Under the Pages section of the screen, click Add Page and enter the Facebook page name or URL. This will add an asset card to your Business Manager home screen, allowing you to see performance insights across your Pages.
    8. If you've just created a new business Page, make sure you published your Page so you can start running ads.
    9. Under the Ad Accounts section of the screen, click Add Ad Account and enter the ad account ID. This will add an asset card to your Business Manager home screen, allowing you to see performance insights across your ad accounts.
    10. To add a partner to your business, you'll add them at the asset level. Go to either Pages or ad accounts, click Assign Partner, and fill out the remaining fields and Save.

    Multiple ad accounts

If you want to run multiple ad campaigns, adding more than one ad account to your Business Manager is encouraged. Your ads will continue to run even after you move your ad accounts to your Business Manager.

    • Create separate ad accounts for each client or business you manage
    • Run different ad campaigns simultaneously

The Business Manager permission model has 2 different layers to help businesses securely manage their ad accounts, Pages, and product catalogs.

What are the 2 layers of permissions?

The first layer of permission pertains to Business Manager as a platform, such as adding Admins and employees and assigning roles to work on assets within Business Manager.

The second layer of permission pertains to the level of access a business has to manage their assets across Facebook ads products, such as Facebook Pages, ad accounts, Instagram, Pixel, and other apps.

How do the permission layers work?

In the first layer, business Admins control all aspects of a Business Manager including modifying or deleting the business and adding or removing people from the employee list. Business employees can see all the information in the business settings and be assigned roles by business admins, but can't make any changes.

In the second layer, Pages are assets on Facebook that are controlled by a business that own or claim them into Business Manager. Pages, ad accounts and other assets can only be claimed by one Business Manager, but they can have multiple Partner or individual accounts that access, post, and buy ads. Various roles can be assigned to employees in a business or Partners who request access to your Page.

It's recommended that you give the people you add to your business the least amount of access that will allow them to do their work.
