Here's Why Authorities Aren't Calling The Las Vegas Massacre An Act Of Terrorism

President Donald Trump called it an “act of evil.” But why, many wondered on social media, aren’t authorities using the term terrorism to describe a horrific attack that left at least 58 dead and more than 500 people injured? There’s a reason that law enforcement authorities are hesitant to label an attack like the one in Las Vegas as terrorism. Specific federal statutes target international terrorism and acts associated with groups that the U.S. government has labeled as foreign terrorist organizations.

Las Vegas shooting: US firearms rights campaigner says 'no amount of gun control would have stopped this'

A US talk show host and firearms rights campaigner has claimed "no amount of new gun control could have stopped" the Las Vegas shooting. Mark Walters compared calling for greater restrictions on firearms ownership in the wake of the massacre to "dancing in the blood of victims". At least 59 people were killed and 527 injured when a lone gunman opened fire on crowds at a music festival in the most deadly mass shooting in modern US history.

Many Puerto Ricans angry over Trump's comments on island

Outside of official events, many Puerto Ricans say they won't be welcoming President Donald Trump with open arms during his visit to the storm-wracked island on Tuesday. People in the U.S. territory were angry or dismissive Monday when asked about Trump's description of some Puerto Ricans who have criticized the U.S. government's aid after Hurricane Maria as "ingrates" and about his assurances that the relief effort is going well. "He's a piece of trash," Rachel Cruz, a linguist, said as she head home after buying groceries in the capital, San Juan.
